Nuclear talks between Iran and six major powers will resume in Geneva next week, European Union officials said Friday. The negotiations among senior officials will be the first since Iran and the powers failed to seal a final nuclear deal by the Nov. 24 deadline after a week of frantic talks in Vienna. At the time, a final deadline for the talks was extended until June 30 but officials from all sides said there would be a push in December to further narrow key differences in a bid to keep the diplomatic momentum going. Iranian press on Thursday also cited a senior Iranian diplomat saying Iran will meet the U.S. nuclear talks team in Geneva on Dec. 15. State Department officials had no immediate comment on that. The nuclear negotiations are between Iran and the U.S., the U.K., France, Russia, China and Germany. Since Nov. 24, officials have said there are still significant gaps between the two sides but that there were ideas on the table that could narrow differences on key issues, such as the scale of Iran’s future nuclear enrichment program under a final deal.
