Bringing tens of thousands of people together in one place at the same time to discuss the future of the planet emits a lot of carbon. Organizers of the climate talks do not yet have a final estimate of the carbon footprint of the COP21 conference. In September the “cost” of assembling, running and dismantling the conference site at Le Bourget outside Paris was estimated by organizers at 21,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent , or CO2e, a measure used to compare emissions from different greenhouse gases.
