Outside of the obligatory references to how fast renewables are growing, two utility executives speaking Thursday at CERAWeek by IHS Markit in Houston made hardly any mention of power generation capacity, focusing instead on electric vehicles, battery storage and customer choice. According to one utility president and CEO, the US power industry has entered a transition period that is taking it from caring most about where its power comes from to a place where utilizing technology to provide customers greater choice is becoming the focus. “While the industry’s bottom line remains delivering reliable, affordable and clean energy, innovations that allow for customer choice — and customized energy products — is what is making this an exciting time,” said Patricia Vincent-Collawn, president and CEO of Public Service Company of New Mexico.
