The US oil and natural gas rig count fell by four in the week that ended Wednesday to 1,090, a level not seen in nearly a year, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics data released Thursday. The total was the lowest seen since the week that ended February 28, 2018, when 1,088 rigs were active, the data show. In the major domestic plays, the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico was the clear winner during the most recent week, with the number of active rigs increasing by five to a total of 455, while the total for the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas fell by five, leaving 89 rigs active, the data showed.
