The next phase of development for Iran’s giant South Pars natural-gas field will start producing in February, Petropars, the state-owned company that runs it said, as the country moves to rapidly develop its resources after the removal of many western sanctions. Phase 19 of the field initially will produce 11 million cubic meters a day and be earmarked for domestic consumption, said Mohammad Javad Shams, managing director of Petropars, which is one of Iran’s largest oil contractors and the main contractor at the field. South Pars, an offshore field in the Persian Gulf divided between Iran and Qatar, is the world’s largest natural-gas field not associated with crude oil.
