Oil futures were slightly higher in Asian trading hours Monday with both the U.S. and European oil benchmarks extending strong gains from the previous week. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, light, sweet crude futures for delivery in June traded at $102.16 a barrel at 0531 GMT, up $0.14 in the Globex electronic session. July Brent crude on London’s ICE Futures exchange rose $0.20 to $109.95 a barrel. Nymex WTI crude has risen for six of the past nine weeks and ICE Brent crude has been up for four of the past six weeks. German officials warned over the weekend that Russia would have to face additional sanctions if Moscow disrupts the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine on May 25.
