Georgian Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze struck a deal with Rovnag Abdullayev, the president of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Civil Georgia reported March 4. Under the terms of the new deal, which is an amended version of a 2011 agreement, SOCAR will continue to supply Georgia with natural gas, increasing its exports by 500 million cubic meters in the coming years to keep pace with Georgia’s growing demand. In light of the deal, Georgia will not pursue talks with Russia’s Gazprom to secure additional imports, Kaladze said.
