“The conditions for terminating the contract signed with COSL Offshore Management AS have, in our opinion, been met,” said Geir Tungesvik, Statoil’s senior vice president for drilling and well, in a statement. One rig worker died and two others were injured at the COSL Innovator rig on Dec. 30, when a wave surge shattered several of the rig’s windows during a storm , the first fatality on the Norwegian continental shelf since 2009. The accident is being investigated by the country’s Petroleum Safety Authority. A Statoil spokesman said that the contract had not been ended due to the fatality, but because the COSL Innovator didn’t satisfy conditions stipulated in the contract.
