Canadian pipeline operator Enbridge Inc. ENB 0.49 % said it had asked the country’s energy regulator for a three-year extension on the deadline to begin construction of its proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project. Calgary, Alberta-based Enbridge said Friday that the extension will give it time to strike a partnership with aboriginal groups on the Pacific Coast that have voiced skepticism about and opposition to the pipeline. Canada’s former Conservative government approved the Northern Gateway project in June 2014 , subject to the company fulfilling more than 200 conditions set out by the energy regulator.
