The Nigerian militant group known as the Niger Delta Avengers rejected a dialogue proposal from the country’s government and claimed another attack on a Chevron oil well in Warri, even as the government ordered the withdrawal of troops from communities in the Niger Delta region, Reuters reported June 8. The decision to pull troops from communities in the area came during a meeting between top government officials, state governors and other stakeholders, and was a response to complaints of heavy-handed tactics used by soldiers while searching for militants. Those taking part in the meeting agreed that soldiers would continue patrolling waterways in the region. For its part, the Niger Delta Avengers said via Twitter that it would not take part in any talks with the government.
