Nissan Motor Co. NSANY -0.10% and alliance partner Renault SA RNO -2.00% are teaming up with Chinese auto maker Dongfeng Motor Group Co. DNFGY -3.62% to make a battery-powered automobile in the world’s biggest car market, where electric-vehicle sales are expected to rise. The joint venture, unveiled Tuesday, plans to produce a small sport-utility vehicle at Dongfeng’s plant in Shiyan in 2019, the Renault-Nissan alliance said. The vehicle will be based on an SUV platform developed by the alliance, it said.
