Global growth in primary energy consumption slowed down to 1.3 percent last year from 2.8 percent demand growth in 2018, with renewables a major growth driver in 2019, BP said in its annual Statistical Review of World Energy 2020 on Wednesday. Renewables, together with natural gas, accounted for three-quarters of last year’s increase in global energy consumption, said BP, which has been publishing the annual statistical review since 1952. Renewable energy accounted for over 40 percent of the global growth in primary energy in 2019, more than any other fuel.
