The number of newly reported Covid-19 cases in the U.S. increased drastically from a day earlier, and the number of those hospitalized also rose, hitting another record. The country reported more than 166,000 new cases for Monday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, up from more than 133,000 a day earlier. The U.S. has now reported more than 11.2 million confirmed infections, Johns Hopkins data show. The number of newly reported infections each day tends to be lower at the beginning of the week, as fewer people are tested on weekends.
