This satellite image released Tuesday by NOAA shows busy storm activity in the Gulf of Mexico. With the naming of Subtropical Storm Theta this week, the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season surpassed 2005 as the busiest season ever recorded. Theta is the 29th named storm of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. There were 28 named storms in 2005: 21-named from an official alphabetical list used by the National Hurricane Center, then six using the Greek alphabet, which is used if the official list is exhausted.
