Iraq has postponed its upcoming national elections by four months, as authorities struggle to overcome the kinds of technical and security problems that undermined public confidence in the 2018 elections . Shortly after taking office last year, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi called for early elections to be held June 6, 2021. But on Monday, the Iraqi Cabinet voted in favor of rescheduling for Oct. 10, 2021, citing a recommendation by the Independent High Electoral Commission to delay for technical reasons.
