As the world fights to reduce emissions, the transportation sector is being transformed on every level – with hydrogen trains being just one example. In Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, hydrogen trains are a central part of plans to decarbonize their national rail networks. Hydrogen trains have several advantages over electric trains, notably that they can refuel faster and go further than electric alternatives. With governments putting pressure on transport companies to introduce cleaner modes of travel, several companies are looking to hydrogen as the future of green transportation. Hydrogen fuel cells offer a longer range and faster fuelling than electric alternatives, which means we could soon see hydrogen trains in cities and towns around the world.
